HANGGLIDING: An American Icon
An Original Short Documentary by Nikki Arctic
HANG GLIDING: AN AMERICAN ICON –Exploring the Extraordinary Power of the Human Body
I created my 16-minute short documentary,
Hang Gliding: An American Icon,
after being inspired by an Imagine Entertainment filmmaking challenge celebrating human achievement.
I wanted to demonstrate how powerful the human body can be without relying on motors or engines. Hang gliding was the perfect subject.
“I wanted to demonstrate how capable the human body is without the use of mechanics”
-Nikki Arctic
I wrote, directed, filmed, and edited the documentary, myself at historic Dockweiler State Beach in California.
The film explores the roots of American hang gliding and features WindSports owner Andy Beem, pilot Eric Muss-Barnes, and veteran flight instructors Erika Klein and Cyndia Klein.
It also celebrates women in aviation and highlights how accessible hang gliding really is, offering an affordable, beginner-friendly opportunity for everyday people to experience the freedom of flight.
For me, this documentary is about human potential, freedom, and our extraordinary connection to the natural world.
